Pt presents with, "please restore my implants placed in 18,19 & 20?"

Although I was very positive in my comments about the surgeon, the patient looked at me puzzled and said, "how will you ever restore #20?"

I told him that it would most likely be a single 3 unit bridge.

Its a shame that if you plan the case initially with Cone Beam, the restorative may have ended up being single unit. Note how different size implants could have been used!

Although, I have never used them, I wonder why would any one use outdated software like Simplant that requires pricey conversions, when you have Anatomage (InVivo5) and even FREE Blue Sky Bio Software?

How I use InVivo Animation to get the patient excited about Implants

This is absolutely amazing feature of InVivo Software that I just installed.

As you can see, this can be easily emailed by a Treatment Coordinator to spark the interest in implant treatment.

Before buying a dental CT Scan, consider this!

Although the reasons may be great in buying a 3D Scanner, besides all the hoopla from vendors, here are some things that most future owners don't think about and salesman don't say:

1) Staff Training: This is a biggie. Even though you may not have a big staff turnover, at the time of the purchase most vendors offer FREE Training. The problem is that it always involves your most trusted Employee, either front or back. And you never know how long they will last with you.

2) ROI: Despite what "they" tell you how its great to own one because you will "start" to scan every one. In my opinion, this is a bunch of baloney! First of all, most patients think its overkill to take a Cat Scan, unless you have pathology or implants waiting in the reception room.

On the average, a general dentist will do most likely 2 to 3 scans a month. Ask yourself, is $175,000 to $200,000 investment worth if you are only scanning 2 to 3 patients where the insurance pays on the average about $175. If you do the math it will take you 27 years to pay back. This is assuming you have 3 patients and get $175. Even if you double everything, it will take you half of 27 years. Now who has time for this?

3) Hardware Calibrations: Every day, the machine has to be calibrated, and each month a phantom scan has to be performed. Overall, so much technical maintenance that is beyond scope of this blog site--is a lot of pressure on daily activities of staff. Whether you get back or front staff to help you with it, its a big headache!

4) Software Implementation: And after the scan is actually taken, it has to be processed and stored using software that gets updated every year with new bells and whistles.

In my opinion, its better for a General Dentist outsource the "ownership" of a Dental CT Scan with all its cost and headaches.
